What the New Year Holds – Happy New Year to all and to all a good year!

January 1st, 2014

A happy New Year indeed! This year, you will see many changes, more like additions, to Team Sterghos. These changes are because I was selected to the US Military Endurance Sport (USMES) Elite Triathlon Team. Formerly the US Military Cycling Program, USMES has now brought on an elite triathlon team to help accomplish its mission.

Our program’s vision is simple:

US Military Endurance Sports is committed to providing education, and a supportive community for active and Veteran US Service members in which they can build life-long healthy habits through endurance sport.

This year, I will be joined by Air Force SSG Nick Chase, 2LT Samantha Morrison, and former Air Force Captain Kathy Rakel, as our triathlon team director.

Our sponsors this year include many big names: American Classic wheels, Boeing, Osmo Nutrition, Primal wear, Rudy Projects, Schwalbe tires, Scott, Sram, and Xterra Wetsuits. In addition to these great supporters, Amrita Health Foods, Jack and Adams Bikes, Total Immersion, Sable Water Optics, and Vasa continue to support me in my athletic pursuits. And of course my favorite charities continue to be Team Red, White & Blue and The Global Healthy Living Foundation. If you or someone you know would like to support me and/or USMES in 2014 please contact me or USMES directly.

My racing in 2014 will continue to focus on ITU draft-legal races, all in North America, with several local (Austin, TX) and National non-drafting Olympic distance races. There will be two USMES team races including The Boulder Peak Triathlon (Boulder, CO) and The Wildflower Triathlon (Paso Robles, CA). You can see my entire entire race schedule on my Race Schedule page of my website. Coach Tim Crowley of TC2 Coaching is still my coach, as we have been working together since the start of 2010. Nick Chase will also be coached by him this year and I know we will continue to have success thanks to Tim.

This year will also include a full time working schedule with the U.S. Army. I will be back at Fort Hood, TX, also know as The Great Place, working in the 1-44 ADA BN and 69th BDE, specifically in the 1-44 ADA Rear Detachment. Our main mission is to support the 1-44 ADA battalion, which is currently deployed. Most of my triathlon training is in and around Ft. Hood, TX and Austin, TX. Feel free to contact me if you are in the area, either for some fun or training, although those are one in the same most of the time.

I am looking forward to another great year and am honored to team up with US Military Endurance Sports and all my old and new sponsors. USMES also has club teams, so please join and take advantage of the many benefits. One spotlight is our discounted team camp in Tucson, AZ this March.

Good luck to you and may you reach all of your goals this year. Happy New Year!
